Holding this brand new book in my hands makes me incredibly emotional, but this whole process reminds me of a valuable lesson about the meaning of life.

So, having a bit of a moment right now, and it\’s led to me having a realization that I want to share with you in this video about dealing with hard things and dealing with hard situations. So this is my newest book. It\’ll be out in a couple days (as of when I\’m recording this video), it\’s called Change Your Questions, Change Your Future. I wrote it with my good friend and colleague, Dr. Adam Froerer. This book is the culmination of 15 years of working together.

Adam and I have been really passionate about utilizing, implementing, teaching, researching the Solution Focused Approach over these 15 years. And we have literally spoken every week for 15 years. And we\’re constantly talking about, the power, the magic and the eloquence of this approach. And at some point, we started thinking about, what if we could write a book so that the reader can experience this transformation in their lives just from reading a book, without having to go see a therapist, without having to do anything, just literally from reading the book.

That\’s a hard thing to do. And over the course of these 15 years, we kept talking about it, kept talking about it, and now it\’s here. You know, this book is unlike any other book that Adam and I have written before. We\’ve both written books before, but unlike every other book, this isn\’t necessarily about how do you, the professional, practice Solution Focused Brief Therapy. This is about how we process questions, how we change the questions we ask ourselves and the people around us to produce answers that lead towards a mega life transformation, which is really at the heart of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

It\’s emotional to get this in my hands because I know how much time, energy and effort went into it. But the realization that I had, as I sit here, I can\’t really explain the feeling of when a book that you\’ve written, arrives on your doorstep. It\’s a hard thing to process.

So much went into this one. And it has me realizing, over these years, things have not always been easy. I\’ve had to deal with some conflicts in my field based upon bigotry and racism and bias. I\’ve had the hardships that go along with being an entrepreneur and realizing that in order to accomplish your dreams, you\’re not going to be able to work at an agency or university. You\’re gonna have to, chart your own path and you\’re going to have to start a business and I\’m telling you, that\’s not always easy. You have to manage employees, and there\’s just a lot that goes into it. It\’s isolating at times. It\’s hard on your personal life. It\’s been hard on my health. There\’s been a lot.

But when you\’re engaged in meaningful work, it gives the journey value. It gives the journey purpose. It gives the journey meaning in a way that makes it all worth it.

When I sit here and I hold this book and I think of all the hope I have that literally one life will be changed from reading it.

I look back at some of those hardships that we\’ve had to endure, and I would go through them ten times over if I had to, to be able to produce something like this. And it just has me thinking, I think a lot of times people are unhappy and unsatisfied. Not that there\’s anything wrong or certainly anything wrong with them, but, I think people aren\’t consistently engaged in meaningful work.

And I don\’t mean jobs. I mean, they\’re not consistently engaged in things that are meaningful to them. We have jobs that we don\’t like. We have, tasks we don\’t want to do. We\’re just on the rat race. One day looks like the next day, looks like the next day.

But when you\’re engaged in meaningful work, it gives the hard things you\’re going to have to endure more meaning and more purpose, and we\’re all going to experience hard things. But if the hard things produce things like this, then it\’s a privilege to go through those hard things and be able to get things like this out into the world.

As of the time I\’m recording this, we\’re a few days from the official publication date. So I don\’t know what\’s gonna happen. Maybe it\’s gonna end up on the New York Times bestseller list, and we\’re gonna sell millions of copies all over the world, blah, blah, blah.

Or maybe one person is going to read this book and experience a transformation. You know what? I would take that. Because that gives this journey purpose, meaning, and value.

So a couple of things….

Number one, please go buy this book. We wrote it with you in mind. We wrote it because we know that there are people out there that are struggling and need to kind of reconnect with themselves and transform their lives. We truly wrote this book for you. This kind of book you could also give to your clients.

But also make sure you\’re engaged in meaningful things in your life. And if you\’re not engaged in meaningful things, this book is for you because it\’s going to help you find meaning in your life. Because when you\’re engaged in meaningful things, it just gives more life to your life. It just makes life more worth living and makes life more enjoyable.

So this is an incredibly emotional experience for me, and I want all of you to have that feeling of knowing that you\’re doing something meaningful that impacts people.

Again, I would love to know that we sell a million copies and a million people read it and it transforms life. But literally one person reads this and it impacts the way that they live their life, I will feel like that is well worth the investment that went into it.

So find something meaningful to work on in your life. I promise that\’ll make a big, massive difference. If you have a hard time finding something, get this book. It\’ll help your life in ways that you won\’t be able to understand until you do it.
