When I first came to Solution Focused Brief Therapy, I had a major concern, and I just realized I have that concern once again.
And the big concern I had was that people didn’t understand how powerful and impactful practicing Solution Focused Brief Therapy could be for their clients.
Now the reason I that I had that fear way back in the beginning is, back in 2005, the most popular approach by far, not even close, was Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. And it seemed to be like the ‘cool kid’ of the therapy approaches, meaning that’s what everybody was doing. And all the research was saying you should be doing it. Like, that was ‘the thing’.
And I worked for a company that like made you do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and it just didn’t really fit for me. And that’s what led me to Solution Focused Brief Therapy. If you’ve been following for a while, you’ve heard me tell that story.
I just couldn’t believe the impact these (Solution Focused) conversations were having with clients. It was almost like the field didn’t know. And that’s really what set me on the journey I’ve been on to teach people Solution Focused Brief Therapy, to let people know, there’s this massively impactful way of doing therapy, that if you can work at it, and hone it, and focus on it, it will completely transform lives, it’s amazing. And we have introduced, me and my company have introduced, literally hundreds of thousands of people to this approach.
Well, now I look around the field and it’s like IFS is really popular (Internal Family Systems) and all these other things. And it’s like, once again, I don’t think people understand Solution Focused Brief Therapy. And once again, I’m on a mission to make that more clear.
Having conversations with people based on their hoped for futures, and the assets they possess to create those futures, is the single most efficient way, according to research, the single most efficient way to create change. But it’s almost like our profession doesn’t know it.
Once again, Solution Focused Brief Therapy is not like the ‘cool kid’ on the block. It’s kind of like the little secret over here. And I’m working as hard as I can to make it less of a secret.
So if you’re watching this video, please subscribe to my YouTube channel, because we’re going to be sharing more content, more videos, about how amazing Solution Focused Brief Therapy is.

And it’s really me just trying to make this approach way more known and understood by more people in our field, because I’ve never seen anything that has the impact on people’s lives like Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
So I hope that you will stay engaged in my content.
I hope you’ll show up to the 2026 SFBT Diamond Masterclass.
And I hope more than anything, we can continue to illuminate how amazing this approach is for the new generation of clinicians.

Since 2020, Katia Rheault has been offering counselling services at community mental-health agencies located in the Cowichan Valley of Vancouver Island. These agencies provide affordable-to-no-cost short-term support (usually 8 weekly sessions) to underserved clients facing barriers to access mental-health services; and they tend to have long waitlists. Katia has a degree in psychology, a master’s in education, a diploma in professional counselling, and an SFU Diamond Level-3 Certification. She is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor in good standing with ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada).
